What API Shape Explorer does

API Shape Explorer generates multiple radically different interface designs for a module using parallel sub-agents, then compares them to help you choose the best API shape. Use it when designing APIs, exploring interface options, or comparing module shapes.

API Shape Explorer is cataloged under AI Engineering on DirSkills. API Shape Explorer comes from a repository tagged ai, ai-agent, ai-agent-tools, anthropic-claude and claude.

Design an Interface

Based on "Design It Twice" from "A Philosophy of Software Design": your first idea is unlikely to be the best. Generate multiple radically different designs, then compare.

Workflow

1. Gather Requirements

Before designing, understand:

  • What problem does this module solve?
  • Who are the callers? (other modules, external users, tests)
  • What are the key operations?
  • Any constraints? (performance, compatibility, existing patterns)
  • What should be hidden inside vs exposed?

Ask: "What does this module need to do? Who will use it?"

2. Generate Designs (Parallel Sub-Agents)

Spawn 3+ sub-agents simultaneously using Task tool. Each must produce a radically different approach.

This is the opening of the README. Read the full README on GitHub.

Frequently asked about API Shape Explorer

  • What else does zebbern publish alongside API Shape Explorer?

API Shape Explorer is one of 25 skills that DirSkills catalogs from zebbern/claude-code-guide, the repository it ships in. Its siblings there include API Fuzzing for Bug Bounty, AWS Penetration Testing and Academic Paper Reviewer. Each one is a separate skill with its own page in this directory, installs the same way API Shape Explorer does, and is maintained by zebbern in that same repository. The rest of the collection is listed on the zebbern/claude-code-guide page.

  • How does API Shape Explorer compare to other AI Engineering skills?

API Shape Explorer ranks #520 by stars among the 2451 AI Engineering skills in this catalog. The most-starred ones next to it are Architecture Decision Records, AI-First Engineering and Agentic OS. DirSkills ranks by the star count of the repository each skill ships in, so that order reflects how popular those repositories are rather than any review of API Shape Explorer against them. Open each page to compare what they document and how they install.
