README

Hook Development for Claude Code Plugins

Overview

Hooks are event-driven automation scripts that execute in response to Claude Code events. Use hooks to validate operations, enforce policies, add context, and integrate external tools into workflows.

Key capabilities:

  • Validate tool calls before execution (PreToolUse)
  • React to tool results (PostToolUse)
  • Enforce completion standards (Stop, SubagentStop)
  • Load project context (SessionStart)
  • Automate workflows across the development lifecycle

Hook Types

Use LLM-driven decision making for context-aware validation:

{
  "type": "prompt",
  "prompt": "Evaluate if this tool use is appropriate: $TOOL_INPUT",
  "timeout": 30
}

This is the opening of the README. Read the full README on GitHub.

Frequently asked about Hook Development

  • What else does fazxes publish alongside Hook Development?

    Hook Development is one of 25 skills that DirSkills catalogs from fazxes/Claude-code, the repository it ships in. Its siblings there include Agent Development, Build An MCPB and Build MCP Server. Each one is a separate skill with its own page in this directory, installs the same way Hook Development does, and is maintained by fazxes in that same repository. The rest of the collection is listed on the fazxes/Claude-code page.

  • How does Hook Development compare to other Automation skills?

    Hook Development ranks #1555 by stars among the 1754 Automation skills in this catalog. The most-starred ones next to it are Autonomous Loops, Autonomous Agent Harness and Automation Audit Ops. DirSkills ranks by the star count of the repository each skill ships in, so that order reflects how popular those repositories are rather than any review of Hook Development against them. Open each page to compare what they document and how they install.
