What Probe does

Probe surfaces multiple candidate epistemic deficits for a vague situation and asks the user to recognize the best fit. Use it when something feels off but the right protocol is unclear.

Probe is cataloged under AI Engineering on DirSkills. Probe comes from a repository tagged ai-collaboration, claude-code, epistemology, metacognition and plugin.

Documentation

README

Probe Skill

Deficit Recognition Probe β€” when the user is uncertain which epistemic deficit (and therefore which protocol) fits the current situation, surface AI-generated multi-hypothesis candidates with reverse-evidence conditions, and route on user-constituted recognition. Type: (DeficitUnrecognized, AI, RECOGNIZE, UserSituation) β†’ ProtocolRoute.

Invoke directly with /probe when the user wants a fit review across the protocol catalog before committing to a single protocol invocation. The AI may also surface these hypotheses on its own when it detects genuine deficit-ambiguity β€” offered as a low-confidence horizon for the user's fusion, not a covert frame (Rule 1); explicit invocation is one entry, not the only one.

Frequently asked about Probe

  • What else does jongwony publish alongside Probe?

Probe is one of 25 skills that DirSkills catalogs from jongwony/epistemic-protocols, the repository it ships in. Its siblings there include Aitesis Protocol, Analogia Protocol and Contextualize. Each one is a separate skill with its own page in this directory, installs the same way Probe does, and is maintained by jongwony in that same repository. The rest of the collection is listed on the jongwony/epistemic-protocols page.

  • How does Probe compare to other AI Engineering skills?

Probe ranks #3441 by stars among the 3670 AI Engineering skills in this catalog. The most-starred ones next to it are Architecture Decision Records, AI-First Engineering and Agentic OS. DirSkills ranks by the star count of the repository each skill ships in, so that order reflects how popular those repositories are rather than any review of Probe against them. Open each page to compare what they document and how they install.

Aitesis Protocol

Aitesis Protocol scans for missing context before execution and asks prioritized questions to resolve uncertainties. Use it when an AI needs to separate factual, coherence, and relevance gaps before proceeding.

Analogia Protocol

Analogia Protocol validates structural mappings between abstract and concrete domains. It surfaces concrete instantiations when a mapping is uncertain and supports user grounding, repair, or withdrawal.

Contextualize

Contextualize detects when an output is technically correct but does not fit the current application context. Use it after execution to surface applicability mismatches for review, routing, or adaptation.

Elenchus Protocol

Elenchus Protocol vets working context before action by challenging claims, checking provenance, and surfacing counterarguments. Use it when a context may be suspect and needs to be resolved into a vetted context.

Elicit

Elicit reverse-traces decision coordinates from an ambiguous intent using the user’s codebase, rules, session history, and environment. Use it when a request is underspecified and you need to surface questions, parked coordinates, and a resolved endpoint.

Encapsulation Audit

Encapsulation Audit reviews plugin SKILL.md prose and plugin description metadata for self-contained language. Use it when checking for contributor-knowledge assumptions or banned-reference rephrasings that evade deterministic encapsulation checks.
