What Setting Up Coral does

Setting Up Coral configures local agent runtimes as named bindings for coral tasks. Use it to register Claude, Codex, Cursor, or other runtimes, then validate them with `coral agents doctor` when a run reports missing runtimes or auth errors.

Setting Up Coral is cataloged under Automation on DirSkills. Setting Up Coral comes from a repository tagged agent-framework, agent-orchestration, agentic-ai, ai-agents and alpha-evolve.

Setting up coral (agent bindings)

After installing the coral CLI, the one-time machine setup is registering which agent runtimes you have as named bindings. A binding bundles a runtime + CLI command + default model + runtime options under a short name, stored at:

~/.config/coral/agents.yaml # honors $XDG_CONFIG_HOME; override with $CORAL_AGENTS_CONFIG

Tasks then reference a binding by name (agents.binding: claude-opus) instead of repeating runtime/model in every task.yaml. This keeps task.yaml portable (topology: how many agents, which roles) and machine-specific details (which CLIs are installed here) in a user-level file that's never committed.

This is the opening of the README. Read the full README on GitHub.

Frequently asked about Setting Up Coral

  • What else does Human-Agent-Society publish alongside Setting Up Coral?

Setting Up Coral is one of 12 skills that DirSkills catalogs from Human-Agent-Society/CORAL, the repository it ships in. Its siblings there include CORAL Quickstart, Coral Debug and Coral Extend. Each one is a separate skill with its own page in this directory, installs the same way Setting Up Coral does, and is maintained by Human-Agent-Society in that same repository. The rest of the collection is listed on the Human-Agent-Society/CORAL page.

  • How does Setting Up Coral compare to other Automation skills?

Setting Up Coral ranks #917 by stars among the 1523 Automation skills in this catalog. The most-starred ones next to it are Autonomous Loops, Autonomous Agent Harness and Automation Audit Ops. DirSkills ranks by the star count of the repository each skill ships in, so that order reflects how popular those repositories are rather than any review of Setting Up Coral against them. CORAL Quickstart

CORAL Quickstart explains what CORAL does and when to use it, then walks through installing the CLI, registering a runtime, and scaffolding a `.coral_workspace/` for a codebase you want optimized. Use it to get from zero to a validated CORAL task and launch point.

Coral Debug

Coral Debug verifies and debugs changes to CORAL itself, with the smallest repro loop for each area like grader, daemon, CLI, hooks, manager, workspace, hub, template, config, and web. Use it when editing code under coral/ or investigating a CORAL bug.

Coral Extend

Coral Extend adds new components to the CORAL framework itself, such as agent runtimes, CLI commands, hooks, config fields, bundled templates, or grader infrastructure. Use it when changing the package internals, not for per-task graders or debugging existing code.
