What Test Fixing does

Test Fixing runs the test suite, groups failures by pattern, and applies focused fixes until tests pass. Use it when tests are failing, a refactor breaks tests, or CI reports test-related failures.

Test Fixing is cataloged under Quality on DirSkills. Test Fixing comes from a repository tagged ai-agents, ai-tools, anthropic, automation and claude-code.

Test Fixing

Systematically identify and fix all failing tests using smart grouping strategies.

When to Use

  • Explicitly asks to fix tests ("fix these tests", "make tests pass")
  • Reports test failures ("tests are failing", "test suite is broken")
  • Completes implementation and wants tests passing
  • Mentions CI/CD failures due to tests

Systematic Approach

1. Initial Test Run

Run make test to identify all failing tests.

Analyze output for:

  • Total number of failures
  • Error types and patterns
  • Affected modules/files

2. Smart Error Grouping

Group similar failures by:

  • Error type: ImportError, AttributeError, AssertionError, etc.
  • Module/file: Same file causing multiple test failures
  • Root cause: Missing dependencies, API changes, refactoring impacts

This is the opening of the README. Read the full README on GitHub.

Frequently asked about Test Fixing

  • What else does mhattingpete publish alongside Test Fixing?

Test Fixing is one of 18 skills that DirSkills catalogs from mhattingpete/claude-skills-marketplace, the repository it ships in. Its siblings there include Architecture Diagram Creator, Code Auditor and Code Execution. Each one is a separate skill with its own page in this directory, installs the same way Test Fixing does, and is maintained by mhattingpete in that same repository. The rest of the collection is listed on the mhattingpete/claude-skills-marketplace page.

  • How does Test Fixing compare to other Quality skills?

Test Fixing ranks #1094 by stars among the 1354 Quality skills in this catalog. The most-starred ones next to it are Benchmark, Benchmark Optimization Loop and API Design Patterns.
